Author Richard C. White will join us via Zoom to discuss scams. Attorneys Mark Sableman and Matt Braunel will appear LIVE. Both presentations are FREE. We will gather at The Lodge Des Peres, 1050 Des Peres Rd., St. Louis, MO, 63131 for the presentation, or you may attend the meeting online. To do so, follow the event link in the St. Louis Writers Guild website. NOTE: “Writers, AI, and the Law” will NOT be available in the Guild Members Archive. If you are interested in this topic, attend in person or online.
How NOT to Get Published (Hint: Don’t get scammed)
Richard C. White will explain how writers seeking trade publication can identify red flags when dealing with agents and publishers. He will also discuss recognizing and identifying the current scams going around that target independent publishers.
Writers, AI, and the Law
As a writer and lawyer, Mark Sableman brings firsthand insight into the ways AI is already reshaping both professions. Matt Braunel brings deep knowledge of AI's technical and legal dimensions, with a particular focus on the unique challenges it poses for content creators and other creative professionals. Together, they offer a comprehensive view of where the technology and law stand and where they may be headed. Bring your questions about the impact of AI on writers, artists, and publications.
About Our Speakers:
Richard C. White, a multi-genre author, serves on the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association Writer Beware committee. His latest novella collection, Cry Havoc: The Furies Book One, an action/adventure homage to the Golden Age of Comics, will be released in March 2026. As a media tie-in writer, he’s written for Star Trek, Doctor Who, Battletech, and The Incredible Hulk franchises. His novel, Gauntlet Dark Legacy: Paths of Evil, was a best-selling tie-in for his publisher. His latest tie-in works are One Night in Freeport and Storm Wreck for Nisaba Press (Green Ronin Gaming).
Mark Sableman has practiced media law since 1986. Mark began his career as a journalist, including a tenure at the Washington Post. Mark’s book on media law was among many books used to train Anthropic’ s Claude Platform, so he is among the authors expecting to receive about $3,000 from a class action settlement.
