Workshops for Writers - May 3: Research at the Missouri Historical Society's Library

Join the St. Louis Writers Guild from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. CDT on Saturday, May 3, 2025, for a free workshop with librarian Kelly Brown on conducting historical research for your writing.

Our presenter, Kelly Brown, will join us LIVE, in person for this FREE workshop. We will gather at The Lodge Des Peres, 1050 Des Peres Rd., St. Louis, MO, 63131 for the presentation, or you may attend the meeting online. To do so, follow the event link from the St. Louis Writers Guild website.

Writers of both fiction and nonfiction can find inspiration and information in libraries and archives. The Missouri Historical Society’s facility here in St. Louis is a world-class resource, available to the public for free. In this workshop you will learn the range of materials you can access and how to go about your searches and requests. In this practical orientation to library research, librarian Kelly Brown will share the tips and tricks you need to inspire a plot, sharpen a historical character, or nail a setting’s veracity.

Kelly Brown is the Acquisition Librarian at the Missouri Historical Society's Library and Research Center, where she purchases books and helps evaluate and process book donations. Additionally, she assists visitors with questions and introduces the library resources to researchers. She is always happy to orient writers and other patrons to the wealth of information available to them at the Library and Research Center.
