Note by photographer: "This picture of a baby gray whale was taken in March in Baja, California – Sea of Cortez. Our Zodiac entered a quiet bay through the early morning fog with the engine on close to idle. Before us loomed two gray whale mothers with their babies. These gentle giants surfaced so close to our tiny rubber boat we could reach out and touch them."
