Alice Hatfield Azure recently retired to Maryville, Illinois after a twenty-three year career in the United Way movement, where as a social planner, she worked with volunteers in Rock Island, (IL), Green Bay (WI), Washington, D.C. and Gales Ferry (CT) to allocate charitable funds, conduct community needs assessments and evaluate the results of funded programs.
Now, she divides her time between writing and three grandchildren. Her son, Michael Liljegren, and his wife, Kelley are teachers at Collinsville high school, so each day Alice gets to feed snacks to Hanna, Luke and Faith after school, and listen to their stories about sports, books and homework. Sometimes she watches Sponge Bob Square Pants, too!
Patti, Alice’s youngest daughter, lives four hours north in Geneseo, Illinois with her husband, David Lindstrom and their son, Bo, Alice’s oldest grandchild. Bo’s parents are teachers, too, who find time to drive him all over the Midwest so he can play in baseball tournaments. Bo is becoming an accomplished jazz pianist.
Alice oldest daughter, Katie Liljegren, is a journeymen’s electrician and lives in Waltham, Massachusetts with her companion, Sharon Curry, who works at Boston Children’s Hospital as a computer programmer.
Alice Azure’s recent poems have appeared in I Was Indian: An Anthology of Native Literature; Visions and Voices: American Indian Activism and the Civil Rights Movement; Many Mountains Moving; Yukhika-latuhse; Mid Rivers Review; and Birthed from Scorched Hearts: Women Respond to War. A Mi’kmaq Métis, her roots are in the Kespu’kwitk District of Nova Scotia. The St. Louis Poetry Center, to which she belongs, published her prize-winning poems in its annual chapbooks of 2007 and 2008. Her first book, In Mi’kmaq Country: Selected Poems and Stories, was released in 2007 by Albatross Press.

I am a student of life. I enjoy new experience and human interaction as much as I enjoy being alone with my thoughts and old hobbies. I feel I have an old soul yet maintain my wayward tendencies. I have had many careers including: security officer and supervisor; a shorter than average run in the Marine Corps; retail sales and management; installation tech; warehouse worker; factory worker; landscaper; construction worker; funeral worker; limo driver; and a over the road truck driving career that was shorter than my military career.
I am a new writer even though my love of the written word dates back to my second year on this earth when I started reading the great Dr. Seuss. My adventures with literature expanded from their: with my mother first reading me The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and its companions, and then me rereading them myself by the time I finished kindergarten. Around seven or eight years of age I was sneaking the adult books and scared the willies out of myself with Stephen King's Cujo. I remember my joy at turning twelve and getting my adult-library-card and all the fantastical worlds it opened up for me.
Unfortunately, or maybe it was for the best - for the experiences I gained have given me some valuable insights, I did not enjoy the rules and regulations of the educational system. I scraped by with minimal effort for most of my middle and high-school career. It was not until my first year of community college that I regained my childhood love of education and learning. And after completing my Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, I dived right back into the mundane world head first rarely looking back. I see this as unfortunate because I sacrificed the opportunity to master the human language in both its written and verbal forms and instead only gained a working knowledge. Now that I have discovered my love of writing I must re-learn the proper uses of punctuation, the correct spelling of words I use every day and the meanings of the words I should be using. But this is the path I have chosen and I am set on my course.
I am currently working on Nutts World, which is my fiction universe. My plan is to create a universe that is all encompassing; every story will take place in the same fictional world. The connection will not be noticeable at first but in time everything will come together. I have also been self publishing on the website HubPages in the hopes of making a little money while honing my writing skills.

published around the world, including the U.S., India, and the United Kingdom. Now if she would get off her duff and quit teaching and freelancing, she would probably, maybe, actually, truly be entitled to be called a writer. BTW, she'd rather read and write than breathe.

After living in California for twenty-six years, Debbie Fox, a creative nonfiction writer, has returned to her Midwestern roots. Writing creative nonfiction for thirteen years, Debbie has had essays published in various magazines, newspapers, and a book. She had two feature articles published this summer in HeartLand Boating magazine. She is seeking representation for her completed memoir, Living in My Skin, Even if It’s Purple, her story of living with an extensive port wine stain and of surpassing the challenges caused by her difference. The writing is intimate and honest, entertaining and enlightening, a stimulus to move beyond differences.
Currently, she is working on her second nonfiction book, Something About Rainbows, an account of the bizarre circumstances that led to the discovery her seven-year-old daughter had AIDS.
A retired RN, Debbie continues writing and manages the publicity for her church and the Kaskaskia Mariners Association.

A writer, architect and city planner with solid experience in positioning firms in the marketplace, his current projects include:
--Promotion of his new book, a family memoir of World War II, "Dad's War with the United States Marines,"
--Consultation with firms in writing, architectural design, promotion and construction, and
--Beginning of his next work, a novel, "Crimes of Design," a Patrick MacKenna mystery, set in St. Louis during the highest flood of record.
"Dad's War with the United States Marines:" Here is a new kind of World War II memoir-a family narrative that relates the exploits of a low-ranking but resourceful nonconformist whose talents were lost on the military bureaucracy. In the spring of 1944 Ben Green enlisted in the Marine Corps with the intent of assisting the war effort as an officer in combat intelligence. He was 35 years old and left behind a wife and two small children. The vagaries of war, however, did not result in his anticipated officer training. Instead, Ben Green found himself training in the Marine infantry along with tough, angry kids, half his age.
This book is a chronicle of discovery in the World War II experiences of Ben Green, but creating it was also a journey of discovery for the author. Through the experience of writing and researching this book, Bens son learned that a father he had respected but never fully understood, nor knew how to love, had, indeed, been his mentor and his best friend. Based on the letters and writings of the authors parents, two talented journalists who wrote each other daily, as filtered through his own family experience, this narrative describes one familys struggle when swept along in the tides of the worlds biggest war. The book is further documented by his mothers biographical script for a 48th This Is Your Life surprise birthday party for Ben.. It is also viewed, first by the author as a six-year-old, and then from his contemporary perspective as a survivor of the mayhem. The book is illustrated with Bens own drawings, included in his letters home.

After 50 years, I found Mary June Bruckheimer's grave and over 100 relatives … including Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of CSI and Cold Case. An article, How I found MOM in 7 steps, will be published in Missouri State Genealogy Association Journal, Summer 2010.

I am new at writing and have recently finished my first manuscript. I am currently looking for publication.
During the day I am employed doing general maint. and repair at a Pet care facility as well as a few construction / remodel jobs on the side.
I have always had an active imagination and decided to begin writing it down to share with others. My talents lie on the artistic side, weather that be painting, sketching, building violins and of course, expressing myself on paper.
I am joining the writers guild so as to familiarize my self with the people and the buisiness of writing and publishing and see if I can make it work for me.

My motto: "Poetry, like crime, doesn't pay. But, what are ya gonna do?" So, although I am a published poet, I earn my keep as the owner/operator of a pet sitting business.
My days are happy, and I can write.
