I am a 63 year old man. I have been writing for personal enjoyment for years but I have never sent anything into public scrutiny. I have joined this group to become a writer. Writing has always had an aura of the intellect about it and to me people who are writers are thought to be intellectual. But when I meet a writer, the person looks nothing like I see my self to look. I know one cannot see intellect, but there should be a glimmer of potential in the exterior. Perhaps I haven't really met any writers. I am a lawyer by profession and livelihood and I have practiced law for about 35 years. While it is a noble calling, I have never described myself as a lawyer. It is just not how I see myself, just like meeting a writer. I have met plenty of lawyers. They surely do not look like the way I see myself. So here I am not knowing what I look like to myself. I have talent somewhere and some people skills. I have been a member of the U.S. Marine Corp, a Viet Nam veteran, an Optimist, a Rotarian, a Catholic, and other groups. I have 2 children and two former wives who are good friends, well fairly good friends. I like beautiful women and good wine and good food, and I am in constant pursuit of all these treasures.

Handicapped by an alcoholic stepfather, Sir E.J. set off on a crusade, after high school, in search of the very soul he had lost to this ogre. Upon entering the Navy, circa 1967, he continued his search for she who must be obeyed if he was to overcome the beastly side of his nature. "Whatever you do," is he forewarned by a fellow shipmate, "don't let them rob you of the most precious gift you have, your humanity, for the wraiths will claw away at it until all that remains is the shadow of what was once you." And so must he, resist the temptation of his fathers, to live out any other vision but his own, one that eventually leads to his expulsion from the Navy for his noncooperation and conscientious objection to the war in Vietnam.
Returning to St. Louis, he joined a community of antiwar activists who published an underground paper, The St. Louis Free Press. After a year of leafleting the induction center downtown, he joined another community forming a Catholic Worker House on the south side of the city. Later that year, he went to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to work at an alcoholic treatment center. At year's end, he moved back to St. Louis to work on a psychiatric floor at local hospital. Leaving there, in protest over the performance of a lobotomy on a 15-year-old female, he went to work on an orthopedic floor at another hospital for the next seven years.
During this time, he purchased a farm in southern Missouri, where he grew organic vegetables, he marketed back in St. Louis. There he built a cabin and began to acquire the tools he would need to farm.
Upon leaving the hospital, he went to work for a general contractor as a carpenter. In 1982, he married and began to raise a family. On the farm, he started building a home, only to have his well-laid plans dashed by an unfortunate but permanent injury to his back, that left him unable to perform manual labor, ever again.
Thrown into a quandary, he eventually went to work for the City of St. Louis as a building inspector, where he worked for two years, before taking a similar position with the City of Richmond Heights, where he has remained, to this day.
After a series of dreams he had in his second year with the City of St. Louis, he started writing his first book, Close Encounters of a Very Special Kind, a recounting of his encounters with soul and their eventual reunion. The book went nowhere. After a brief hiatus, he went to work on a revised version of the book, a memoir entitled A Different Kind Of Sentinel, due out in March.
Sir E.J. is a self-taught, self-made man who has struggled mightily to live up to his soul's expectations, acquiring
whatever it took to get them through the next stage in the development of that one person they are destined to become.

Senior Internal Communication Specialist

My expertise lies in business writing and editing: I’m zealous for clear, concise communication that captures readers’ attention and understanding and moves them to action. I also want to help others convey their ideas effectively, whether they’re seeking business results or a spot on the shelf at Barnes & Noble.
I’m the Senior Internal Communication Specialist at Scottrade, Inc., an online investing firm based in St. Louis, where I’ve done corporate communication since 2005.
Through both print and online media, I help employees understand Scottrade’s business objectives, policies and procedures, and issues that affect them at work—everything from their medical benefits to personal development. I believe storytelling isn’t just entertaining; it’s also one of the most effective ways to inform and engage employees.
As the writer of Scottrade’s quarterly print magazine, weekly intranet feature articles, executive video scripts and company-wide e-mails, I’ve become an “inside journalist,” serving as the voice of Scottrade for our 3,000 employees nationwide.
In addition to these internal communication pieces, I've worked on several projects for public relations purposes, including Scottrade's annual report book. I also co-teach an ongoing business writing class for employees.
I graduated summa cum laude from Webster University in 2006 with a BA in English and an emphasis in writing as a profession. My coursework included journalism, creative nonfiction, autobiography, business writing and public relations. For professional development, I’ve attended writing and editing workshops through Ragan Communication and the International Association of Business Communicators.
In 2009 I’ve edited three fiction manuscripts on a volunteer basis and have contributed to the blog “Echad” at oneechad.blogspot.com.
I’d like to expand my writing and editing services to include manuscript editing (fiction and nonfiction), Web content writing, ghostwriting and proofreading.

Diane Fitzsimmons is a mission-driven writer who thrives on getting results. Passion and productivity are key components of her writing.
For 10 years, Diane has enjoyed wearing many hats in her professional career. Her favorite hat, staff writer, propelled her to explore freelance writing opportunities. Encouraged by family, friends, and co-workers, she started her own freelance copywriting business.
Diane now writes for Mid-America Transplant Services (MTS), a not-for-profit organ procurement organization, on a contract basis. Some of the most rewarding projects for her include:
* Demonstrating MTS's values of service and compassion by writing for Solace, a newsletter for families who have lost loved ones that gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
* Emphasizing MTS’s value of teamwork, Diane chronicles the successes of MTS’s hospital partners in the Link, a professional newsletter.
* Furthering MTS’s vision that “every person says ‘yes’ to donation every time,” she scripted the letter for a campaign that contributed to passing Missouri’s First Person Consent Law.
Before working for MTS, Diane enjoyed writing as a staff person for the American Soybean Association (ASA), a grassroots, not-for-profit organization. She created a monthly on-line newsletter for volunteers featuring membership recruiting tips, organizational activities, volunteer accomplishments, “Frequently Asked Questions,” and a calendar of events.
Diane began writing professionally for the Alzheimer’s Association. Her first piece, a public service announcement, aired on the radio. This spot introduced a new program called “Safe Return,” an identification program designed to find people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias that wander and get lost.
Experiencing how her words could produce positive results, Diane decided to make mission-driven, effective writing her life’s work.

My name is Madison Glenn and I am a high school senior at the Fulton School St. Albans. I am currently employed by the Labadie Market, a gas station/deli two blocks from my home, and am wading through a metric ton of college mail and well-meant advice to decide which school I should attend in the fall (it’s down to Beloit, Cornell, Rhodes, or the Honors College at UMSL.) I would like to study creative writing or possibly history at a small, private liberal arts college, preferably in a small town away from Missouri.
I have no awards, special skills, or talents to speak of, and am admittedly very lazy. I hardly ever practice my violin, I wait until the last minute to sneeze my papers out, and I have gotten pretty far into my schooling by relying on my talents instead of effort. The college search, however, has sparked a true interest in growing as a student and as a person, and I am on a mission to change my bad habits and become a better writer through practice and work and criticism instead of performing the same tricks over and over again. I do not want to become the poster-child for wasted potential (not that I think I am endowed with an overabundance of “potential”), and I would love for people to read my work and say “wow, she put a lot of effort into this,” rather than “wow, she is a genius and probably wrote this in an hour.”
To that end, I have chosen to write a novel for my senior project, and to actually practice writing every day instead of when the fancy strikes me. Hoorah for change.
Other pertinent things about me include my love of cats, of baking, and of tennis. I love to eat, I love to be surrounded by people, and I love to go to sleep at night exhausted by what I’ve accomplished. I love driving, walking, riding my bicycle and chatting with grouchy old men about the state of affairs in Labadie, my hometown. I do not love religious or political brouhaha, trans-Atlantic flights, or trying to come up with five hundred words about myself. My plans for the future include graduation, college, a fruitless job search, poverty (hopefully not), and then a career that I can stand without wanting to gouge my eyeballs out every day. I plan on being mother to as many cats as there are beds in my home, and finding a golden roommate who will scoop their box. Also, tomatoes. I would really love to grow tomatoes.

A writer, architect and city planner with solid experience in positioning firms in the marketplace, his current projects include:
--Promotion of his new book, a family memoir of World War II, "Dad's War with the United States Marines,"
--Consultation with firms in writing, architectural design, promotion and construction, and
--Beginning of his next work, a novel, "Crimes of Design," a Patrick MacKenna mystery, set in St. Louis during the highest flood of record.
"Dad's War with the United States Marines:" Here is a new kind of World War II memoir-a family narrative that relates the exploits of a low-ranking but resourceful nonconformist whose talents were lost on the military bureaucracy. In the spring of 1944 Ben Green enlisted in the Marine Corps with the intent of assisting the war effort as an officer in combat intelligence. He was 35 years old and left behind a wife and two small children. The vagaries of war, however, did not result in his anticipated officer training. Instead, Ben Green found himself training in the Marine infantry along with tough, angry kids, half his age.
This book is a chronicle of discovery in the World War II experiences of Ben Green, but creating it was also a journey of discovery for the author. Through the experience of writing and researching this book, Bens son learned that a father he had respected but never fully understood, nor knew how to love, had, indeed, been his mentor and his best friend. Based on the letters and writings of the authors parents, two talented journalists who wrote each other daily, as filtered through his own family experience, this narrative describes one familys struggle when swept along in the tides of the worlds biggest war. The book is further documented by his mothers biographical script for a 48th This Is Your Life surprise birthday party for Ben.. It is also viewed, first by the author as a six-year-old, and then from his contemporary perspective as a survivor of the mayhem. The book is illustrated with Bens own drawings, included in his letters home.

A Life - SLWG
A life, where to start: New Jersey, then Denison U, then Columbia MA (English) then about 25 years teaching non writers to write (college level), then another 25 as a professional photographer, along with teaching, newspaper reporter, carpenter, etc. Now, more recently, retirement: which has been fun: singing in a chorus, doing drawing classes, working on a book describing odd relatives in northern New York, reading, going to museums, listening to Teaching Company CD’s, taking various Lifetime Learning classes (Wash U) (facilited Ullysses , Art of Photography), But I’m short on memberships, (ACLU count?), honors, awards, etc. I did run some businesses, but discovered that I’m not a businessman. What I’m primarily interested in though, is finding people willing to read my stuff and give me some feedback and also might be interested in ways to organize the material. I thought that I would likely run into such people since moving here about 8 years ago, but no such luck. Then l ran across SLWG which I think might be exactly what I need.

When I married Steve Lewin in 1994, he never knew his biological mother - because his biological father refused to tell him her name, birth date or place, where she lived, and if she was dead or alive. How was I to know my husband's last name was changed? That my husband was kidnapped?
After 50 years, I found Mary June Bruckheimer's grave and over 100 relatives … including Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of CSI and Cold Case. An article, How I found MOM in 7 steps - without a trace, was published in Missouri State Genealogy Association Journal, Fall 2008.
Recently, I have taken writing classes and want to publish my book, Miracle Unites Brothers. I have a book outline and all 8 chapters drafter. I desperately want to join a writer's group to collaborate with others and get all of our works published.

A proud Irish-American, I've taken quite a wandering path to becoming an author. Out of college in 1992, I stayed true to my major and became an accountant, eventually working at a CPA firm in Quincy, Illinois. After three years, the numbers game became monotonous so I self-learned that new arena of technology and the Internet in 1995.
Having worked for IBM for several years, I ended up landing at AT&T as a Technical Director, where I still am to this very day. I often joke that I started out as a nerd and then switched over to being a geek.
Well somewhere along the way a bigger transformation began to occur as well. That from a left-brain programmer into a right-brain creative writer and author. Not only did I change in that way, but I also switched from PC to Mac (which I had previously hated with a fire one could perhaps call hellfire) and I now love the Mac.
So now I do like those who came before me did. I arise early each day and write, and then I make time to research and plan over lunch, and then have a final writing session late night. All while focusing my efforts on the demands of my AT&T position.

Though a semi-professional lactose intolerant, Aaron Mermelstein still enjoys heaping bowls of chocolate ice cream, extra-sharp cheeses (he highly recommends the 10 year-old Osceola cheddar, albeit difficult to find in this part of Missouri), and large glasses of icy cold skim milk. This “lactose intolerance/I do so love them dairy products” philosophy has set the tone for the rest of his life and is also responsible for his lack of a social life.
He enjoys writing in the third person (as he is right now at this very instant), and possesses intimate knowledge of the bulk of the English alphabet which, he firmly believes, pretty much qualifies him to be a writer.
While unable to maintain verb tense due to a traumatic brain injury suffered at childbirth, he has written for a number of now defunct publications including The St. Louis Weekly, St. Louis Life, The St. Louis Sun and a couple that didn’t last long enough to actually get a name. He’s also written for defunct websites, defunct corporations and still denies the connection between his writing and all that defunctitude. He’s also written for publications and corporations that still actually do exist, but he’s counting ‘em down.
Oh yeah, he’s also a TV guy, having worked as a reporter in local TV news in a variety of markets across the country and as a producer for such still-funct organizations as ABC News, CBS News, NBC News and once for the Rachel Ray Show.
He’s the author of two novels (Agnes Avenue, which, when once optioned by Warner Brothers, made Bugs Bunny consider heading over to Universal, and Octopus’s Garden, a seemingly unpublishable, though splendidly written—he thinks—novel of Beatlemania gone awry), countless shopping lists, bathroom graffiti and innumerable personal checks to the credit union that holds the lien on his Honda.
A fulltime freelancer since 1984, he thinks this is absolutely quite enough bio for anyone.

Author Bio
Lorna Daniels Nichols is president of Big Picture Ministries LLC, an organization devoted to inspiring and equipping people for success and spiritual growth through the study of God’s Word–the Bible. Lorna has published two books, “Big Picture of the Bible—Old Testament” and “Big Picture of the Bible—New Testament.” Both books are designed to help readers better understand and embrace the blessings and promises God’s Word has to offer. Lorna has also developed several Bible teaching series and offers speaking engagements on a variety of spiritual growth topics. For more information about the products and services offered through Big Picture Ministries, visit Lorna Daniels Nichols’ company website at www.bigpictureofthebible.com.
After graduating from East St. Louis Sr. High School in 1970, Lorna enrolled in Washington University in St. Louis. She chose a fast-track academic program allowing her to graduate with a BA degree in three years. Following graduation, she began a twenty-eight year management career with Southwestern Bell, now AT&T, where she held several positions in Information Technology as an IT professional specializing in Project Management and Quality Assurance.
An early retirement in 2001 put Lorna’s journey on a new path. One of her first God-inspired efforts was the creation of a successful Christian book club which continues to flourish. Lorna also began a teaching ministry from which her books, “Big Picture of the Bible—Old and New Testaments evolved. Despite her seemingly charmed life, Lorna knows what pain and despair are. While in her 20s and 30s, she had a health crisis which resulted in several episodes of clinical depression. It was during those difficult times that Lorna knew God was speaking to her and leading her to Him. She turned to the Bible for comfort and soon realized that she was also experiencing relief from her pain. God’s healing and peace sustained her and she learned to depend on Him for her well-being. Lorna’s wide range of expertise in project design, implementation, and management provides her with the skills essential to writing her highly organized, easy-to-read Bible study guides. Her passion for developing the “Big Picture of the Bible” series comes from her love for Christ and desire to help others develop a more personal relationship with God through knowing His Word.
Lorna and her husband, John, currently live in Chesterfield, Missouri and are members of Grace Church-Saint Louis, a non-denominational church where both are active teachers and leadership mentors. Lorna is currently a member of Independent Book Publishers’ Association (IBPA) formerly PMA. She is also on the Board of Directors at OASIS Food Pantry in St. Charles, MO. Lorna invites you to read her books, “Big Picture of the Bible—Old Testament” and “Big Picture of the Bible—New Testament.” You will experience spiritual growth as you learn about God’s character, His promises, and His love. Both books are available at www.bigpictureofthebible.com or send Lorna an email at Lorna@bigpictureofthebible.com

Editing manuscripts and mentoring/coaching writers are my specialties. I also have published magazine articles and penned a column on dating after 50 for DSM Magazine, an upscale lifestyle magazine about Des Moines, and am writing essays on lifepatterns.org (PDFs of columns are on the site). I recently located to St. Louis and am available for publishing projects—editing, copy editing, writing, proofing—and coaching/workshop facilitation.

I was raised in St. Louis, Missouri, the youngest child of three in a blue collar family. After having served three years in the Marine Corps, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southeast Missouri State University with a double major – Literature and Philosophy. While at the University I served as co-editor of the student literary publication, The Pot Boiler. A piece of my short-short fiction and some of my poetry was printed in that publication. I was also a member of the Board of Publications. Although, not generally the subject matter of my poetry, it does reflect my later experiences as a member of a biracial family, surviving lymphoma and losing my wife to cancer.
I currently reside in the small community of Spanish Lake, about a 40 minute bike ride from the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers.

She would say, "That should be in the movies!" then instead of talking about it, she took the first step toward a true passion and began writing her first script. A story about "Love and Drama",(UNV~LOVE STRONGER THAN PRIDE)which took her several years to write, because she didn't know the first thing about how to write a professional script.

I am currently in-between being a massage therapist and something else yet to be determined. I just graduated from Lindenwood University with a Masters of Arts in Communications, where my professors reminded me of how much I love writing and would like to be more active in the field of writing (read: more than my journals or long emails to friends across the country). Writing has always been one of my strong skills. I was one of the original "editors" of my grade school's literary magazine, where I wrote many stories and poems. One of them was even published in Children's Digest (which I just recently discovered when I googled myself). Many friends even think I should have my own column, simply because I humor them with my matter-of-fact and sarcastic criticisms on dating and the like of the twenty-something's quandaries of life. I figured signing up here and attending workshops would be a good place to start.
