I grew up loving literature and writing poetry in the local bowling alley coffee shop. My first degree was in English & American Literature from the University of California, San Diego. However, on graduation, my attention turned to making money and I ended up getting an MBA with a subsequent career in financial services, payments, and IT.
Prior creative writing gave way to professional articles and white papers over the years. At 60, the tide is changing, and I am compelled to rekindle my passion for creative writing.
I look forward to meeting new people in St. Louis Writers Guild and benefiting from the shared interests.

A lifelong creator, Robyn Arnold began to align her passions with her day job while in her mid-thirties. Knowing that it is never too late to pursue dreams, Robyn is dedicated to creating works that have a positive impact on families.
Whether Robyn is writing books, poems or articles, working on films, or speaking to groups, she loves helping people succeed. Valuing family, often her inspiration lies close to home. While reading to her youngest son who was still using his pacifier, Robyn imagined her first children's book, Branli Says Bye-Bye to Binky. Branli is a lovable bunny who is now the star of his own series: tools for parents and educators to help kids achieve goals during the years from birth to preschool. Branli Goes for a Walk, an adventurous tale of making friends, was released in spring 2008. Robyn appreciates that making time to read to young children can be challenging for working parents, and this motivates her to write thoughtful stories that are fun to read aloud. She does school visits for book readings and walks children through the publishing process.
As a senior IT manager in software development for a multibillion dollar, Fortune 500 company and previous experience leading hardware and software conversion efforts within banks, Robyn is no stranger to aligning teams to get major projects accomplished. She brings her business savvy and negotiation skills to her creative projects and is currently seeking an agent and partners for film projects. Robyn's big plans include language translations, a Branli music CD, greeting cards, and other licensed products.
Robyn's articles on youth related topics have been published on online magazines (e-zines) and she is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) and Missouri Writers Guild.
Robyn strives to get the most out of life with her husband and children in St. Louis, Missouri. When not writing, Robyn enjoys entertaining friends, acting, dancing, listening to music, going to the spa and working up the nerve to go parachuting.

I've known I wanted to write since I was capable of doing so. I started writing stories and journaling at the age of six, and haven't stopped. My love affair with writing continued throughout my school years and into college. I spent time in various newsrooms throughout my academic career, writing for school yearbooks, newspapers, and other publications. In addition, I worked for a small local magazine shortly after college. I have been published on several websites in the last few years, and have decided to make a more concerted effort to focus on my writing career.
Journalism is my first love, and lately much of my non-fiction work centers around parenting and family issues. I also write fiction, and am currently working on a collection of short stories for submission to a local publisher for an anthology.

Tom Carpenter has published nothing, has no fine arts credentials, and has only taken two writing classes ever. His greatest achievement has been to lose a small sum of money trying to get his first novel, a dreadful farce written at the age of eighteen, published. Since then, he has received a few degrees in Business and Engineering, worked diligently for Toyota, and has spent his idle time rearranging letters in long form as a hobby. The work at Toyota, while having nothing to do with the craft of writing, has taught him to listen, think critically, ask good questions and to accept criticism through the difficult art of tataki dai which means to “bash the draft document”. While getting his MBA, he took a writing class when he should have taken another dry business class which rekindled his desire to be published. He is now working on a novel in the mainstream literary fiction category called Escaping The Rain. The novel is currently in the self-flagellation stage.
Tom still plays soccer on a weekly basis in an over-30 league, runs for enjoyment when he's not injured from his league games and generally enjoys any sport that requires body armor even if he can't play them anymore. He has tamed his addiction to online games with two doses of children, five and six years old, but still sneaks out back for a game of WoW on occasion. He enjoys travelling, sans-children, until they can learn to enjoy staring whistfully at big carved stone walls in foriegn countries and not ask where the play area is for the bazillionth time. Tom enjoys anything to do with his wife, especially the travelling part. He has been on tour with the Dead, sung karaoke in Tokyo, suprised a harbor seal in Alaska, raked the slag from the fiery maw of an 80-ton gray iron furnace in Indiana, been hit with a marshmellow in Madison Square Gardens, survived an encounter with a Suburban going forty-five miles an hour, rode the thermals in an experiemental glider on the bluffs of the Missouri river and has generally tried to get the most out of every second of life.

I am an attorney, and own my own law firm. In addition to my JD, I have a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a minor in Microbiology. I was a ballet dancer for twenty three years, and I still do ballroom dancing and yoga.
I am just now branching out into the Saint Louis Arts organizations. I am a member of United Way, The Saint Louis Arts Museum, Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts, CASA, and an avid supporter of the Joffrey Ballet, as well as dance here in Saint Louis. I have volunteered at the Saint Louis Child Crisis Center and have my training certificate as a Guardian Ad Litem.
My blog was the real start of my writing career. I started it during law school in 2005. It has been featured several times on MSN, and is currently featured. It is an atrocity when it comes to grammar or any type of editing, but I have had over 150,000 people read the blog. Each week I am featured I have about 2000 new readers. I was voted into the Best of MSN Hall of Fame in 2006.
I am currently, very slowly, writing a novel based on the character from the blog.

He has been married to my mother, Kathleen Doyle, for almost 36 years and is the father of three and grandfather of two. He has always loved reading and writing. Throughout the years, my dad has written many short stories and letters for all of his children. Recently, he has written more stories for my daughter as well. His stories are wonderful and have profound messages about life embedded in them. Upon retirement, my dad took a class in creative writing at SLCC, purely for enjoyment. He is now working again, and therefore leading a busier lifestyle. He has always been interested in writing and in learning, so this membership is a I hope will help him pursue and enjoy one of his passions. Sincerely, Lisa Doyle Stenger

I'm a 64 year young woman who recently retired from the business world. I had previously spent the last 20 years as an HR professional executive (as a manager, director and vice president) with ESSI (now called DRS). Prior to the HR career, I spent some time working in academia. My education was received from Washington University, with an undergrad in Industrial & Organizational Psychology and a Masters in Human Resources Management. When St. Louis Connoisseur was here in St. Louis, I wrote food review articles for them for several years.
Since retirement, I've taken on two consulting HR jobs which are very rewarding and help keep my experience levels up to par. Also, I've begun a fictional novel as well as this 4 book children's series. The first book of this children's series is completed and I'm currently working with an illustrator to complete the book (hopefully by January 31, 2008).
After being diagnosed with colon cancer in March 2006 and having successful surgery, I now do presentations for the American Cancer Society promoting early testing and detection. Also, I've been working with the USO doing volunteer shifts at the canteen at the airport. Lastly, but certainly not least, I work with Youth In Need, a children's charity organization that is part of the United Way group.
Thanks.

A writer, architect and city planner with solid experience in positioning firms in the marketplace, his current projects include:
--Promotion of his new book, a family memoir of World War II, "Dad's War with the United States Marines,"
--Consultation with firms in writing, architectural design, promotion and construction, and
--Beginning of his next work, a novel, "Crimes Against Nature," a Patrick MacKenna mystery, set in St. Louis during the highest flood of record.
"Dad's War with the United States Marines:" Here is a new kind of World War II memoir-a family narrative that relates the exploits of a low-ranking but resourceful nonconformist whose talents were lost on the military bureaucracy. In the spring of 1944 Ben Green enlisted in the Marine Corps with the intent of assisting the war effort as an officer in combat intelligence. He was 35 years old and left behind a wife and two small children. The vagaries of war, however, did not result in his anticipated officer training. Instead, Ben Green found himself training in the Marine infantry along with tough, angry kids, half his age.
This book is a chronicle of discovery in the World War II experiences of Ben Green, but creating it was also a journey of discovery for the author. Through the experience of writing and researching this book, Bens son learned that a father he had respected but never fully understood, nor knew how to love, had, indeed, been his mentor and his best friend. Based on the letters and writings of the authors parents, two talented journalists who wrote each other daily, as filtered through his own family experience, this narrative describes one familys struggle when swept along in the tides of the worlds biggest war. The book is further documented by his mothers biographical script for a 48th This Is Your Life surprise birthday party for Ben.. It is also viewed, first by the author as a six-year-old, and then from his contemporary perspective as a survivor of the mayhem. The book is illustrated with Bens own drawings, included in his letters home.

My first graduate degree is in Speech Communication, and I have taught a full range of communication courses for over 25 years; particularly enjoying the interpersonal communication course, as I think its essentials form the foundation for so many kinds of reciprocal interaction. Saint Louis University and Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville are the two universities I have taught the majority of courses, though I was also an adjunct at numerous other universities in the St. Louis area.
My second graduate degree is in theology from Aquinas Institute of Theology, with an emphasis in pastoral studies. In this capacity, I have worked in campus ministry, did my clinicals at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and served as a pastoral associate for a church. I have recently retired and had the opportunity to take a "Wise Women's Writing Workshop," which I thoroughly enjoyed. This experience ignited my interest in learning more about creative writing. I have four children, three adult children whom are married, and two grandchildren I absolutely adore being with.
I look forward to being an active member of St. Louis Writer's Guild and would be delighted to serve in whatever capacity seems to be the best fit for my backfound and organizational needs. Thanks much for your kind consideration.
(One of my poems, "Lifting the Veil," is published in "Forever Spoken: The International Library of Poetry," Howard Ely, Editor, 2007.
