Alice Hatfield Azure recently retired to Maryville, Illinois after a twenty-three year career in the United Way movement, where as a social planner, she worked with volunteers in Rock Island, (IL), Green Bay (WI), Washington, D.C. and Gales Ferry (CT) to allocate charitable funds, conduct community needs assessments and evaluate the results of funded programs.
Now, she divides her time between writing and three grandchildren. Her son, Michael Liljegren, and his wife, Kelley are teachers at Collinsville high school, so each day Alice gets to feed snacks to Hanna, Luke and Faith after school, and listen to their stories about sports, books and homework. Sometimes she watches Sponge Bob Square Pants, too!
Patti, Alice’s youngest daughter, lives four hours north in Geneseo, Illinois with her husband, David Lindstrom and their son, Bo, Alice’s oldest grandchild. Bo’s parents are teachers, too, who find time to drive him all over the Midwest so he can play in baseball tournaments. Bo is becoming an accomplished jazz pianist.
Alice oldest daughter, Katie Liljegren, is a journeymen’s electrician and lives in Waltham, Massachusetts with her companion, Sharon Curry, who works at Boston Children’s Hospital as a computer programmer.
Alice Azure’s recent poems have appeared in I Was Indian: An Anthology of Native Literature; Visions and Voices: American Indian Activism and the Civil Rights Movement; Many Mountains Moving; Yukhika-latuhse; Mid Rivers Review; and Birthed from Scorched Hearts: Women Respond to War. A Mi’kmaq Métis, her roots are in the Kespu’kwitk District of Nova Scotia. The St. Louis Poetry Center, to which she belongs, published her prize-winning poems in its annual chapbooks of 2007 and 2008. Her first book, In Mi’kmaq Country: Selected Poems and Stories, was released in 2007 by Albatross Press.

I am a student of life. I enjoy new experience and human interaction as much as I enjoy being alone with my thoughts and old hobbies. I feel I have an old soul yet maintain my wayward tendencies. I have had many careers including: security officer and supervisor; a shorter than average run in the Marine Corps; retail sales and management; installation tech; warehouse worker; factory worker; landscaper; construction worker; funeral worker; limo driver; and a over the road truck driving career that was shorter than my military career.
I am a new writer even though my love of the written word dates back to my second year on this earth when I started reading the great Dr. Seuss. My adventures with literature expanded from their: with my mother first reading me The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and its companions, and then me rereading them myself by the time I finished kindergarten. Around seven or eight years of age I was sneaking the adult books and scared the willies out of myself with Stephen King's Cujo. I remember my joy at turning twelve and getting my adult-library-card and all the fantastical worlds it opened up for me.
Unfortunately, or maybe it was for the best - for the experiences I gained have given me some valuable insights, I did not enjoy the rules and regulations of the educational system. I scraped by with minimal effort for most of my middle and high-school career. It was not until my first year of community college that I regained my childhood love of education and learning. And after completing my Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, I dived right back into the mundane world head first rarely looking back. I see this as unfortunate because I sacrificed the opportunity to master the human language in both its written and verbal forms and instead only gained a working knowledge. Now that I have discovered my love of writing I must re-learn the proper uses of punctuation, the correct spelling of words I use every day and the meanings of the words I should be using. But this is the path I have chosen and I am set on my course.
I am currently working on Nutts World, which is my fiction universe. My plan is to create a universe that is all encompassing; every story will take place in the same fictional world. The connection will not be noticeable at first but in time everything will come together. I have also been self publishing on the website HubPages in the hopes of making a little money while honing my writing skills.

I am a married mother of two teenage children. I have always enjoyed writing dating all the way back to high school. I always did quite well in an Advanced Writing class.
I began my family shortly after high school, and the first lesson I learned being the mother of a newborn is, writing needed to take a backseat. I did, however, manage to teach myself Spanish as a second language during my 9 months of pregnancy.
I began writing again in 2010. First, poetry began to flow from my soul. News articles and a small biography followed. Finally, I began blogging about my life experiences and opinions.
I have earned several accomplishments in the short period of time that I have been writing again; poetry contest trophies, published articles on both Technorati and Yahoo Associated Content, and blog awards from my peers.
What started out as an outlet for me to express myself had turned into a want... no, a need to share my life adventures with the world.
I have always been an advocate for awareness groups but, after recently losing my sister to Cancer three days after her diagnosis, I became more focused on spreading awareness of this horrible plague that is slaughtering so many loved ones. I also spread awareness of child abuse, being a child abuse survivor myself.
Knowledge is power and people cannot fully understand something if nobody speaks about it.
My dream is to finish two biographies; one for my sister and one for myself. If I become a published author it would be magnificent but, I will be just as contented if all I ever achieve is to touch just one person's soul so deeply that their life is forever altered.

"Dad's War with the United States Marines:" Here is a new kind of World War II memoir-a family narrative that relates the exploits of a low-ranking but resourceful nonconformist whose talents were lost on the military bureaucracy. In the spring of 1944 Ben Green enlisted in the Marine Corps with the intent of assisting the war effort as an officer in combat intelligence. He was 35 years old and left behind a wife and two small children. The vagaries of war, however, did not result in his anticipated officer training. Instead, Ben Green found himself training in the Marine infantry along with tough, angry kids, half his age.

Finished draft of first novel, "A Year for Kristine" on November 27, 2011. 254,000 words, 43 Chapters, approximately 600 ages.
"A Year for Kristine" is a novel of a young girl transformed through turbulence and the often violent events of the 60's in a dying mill tow. Although some of my readers think there are similarities between Kristine and Lisbeth Salander, I don't see it. Both feature strong female heroines, but my work was virtually complete before I ever heard of Steig Larsson.
- It's a woman's novel with strong female characters.
- It's lead character overcomes the kind of violence that is all too typical of growing up in America.
- It's set in the 60's -- the crucible for a majority of adult women readers.

For the last decade, I have been employed as a grant writer for cultural institutions and non-profits in the St. Louis area, including the Zoo and Science Center. In this capacity, I have written not only numerous successful grant proposals, but also brochures, white papers, VIP speeches, web content, annual reports, newsletters, etc. Without exaggeration, I can say that my skill in these areas is highly respected, indeed sought after, by colleagues in the field of non-profit communications/fund-raising.
Of course, the very nature of such business writing limits creative growth and I find myself seeking other outlets for my abilities. Like most writers, I find it is always satisfying to see my work in print, but as I am essentially a ‘ghost writer’, my name is rarely, if ever, associated with it. This is a circumstance I wish someday to change! The St. Louis Writer’s Guild was suggested to me by a friend as a potential valuable resource to this end.
A native St. Louisan, I earned a BA in English from Truman State. I edited and contributed to literary magazines in junior high and high school, and was even told by college professors/advisors that my work was publishable. What happened? I suppose you could say that life intervened in a number of unexpected ways. But the itch to pursue actual publication has always stayed with me.

Rickard, spent most of his early youth on farms in the Parker County Texas area. It was there that he was exposed to the rich heritage of story-telling, prevalent in the social structure of small town Texas. Weekly trips from the farm to the nearby town square afforded him the opportunity to sit and listen in on old men telling their stories of hunting and fishing. Occasionally, he would be rewarded with a story about a distant relative that was a horse thief, or an Indian fighter, and on one occasion a Texas Ranger. In his youthful excitement listening to these men spin their tales of the old west and their colorful lives, he never questioned the voracity of the story teller nor thought to put much of a test to the credence of their facts. He was fascinated by the art of storytelling, how the storyteller would stop and look away for a moment, then spit tobacco as if it were an exclamation point. Raise an eyebrow to indicate skepticism, drop their head and lower their tone of voice to show sorrow or regret.
As all children must do, with regrets to Peter Pan, he had to grow up. After establishing himself as a top rate football player in high school, which in small town Texas is tantamount to Sainthood; his father took a job with McDonnel Aircraft in St. Louis and moved the entire family to Missouri his freshman year. His exposure to a large metropolitan city at first looked like it would thoroughly frustrate him; it was such a cultural shock. In addition, he had never seen so many people with such diverse backgrounds in one location at the same time. He actually saw an Asian up close for the first time in his life. Their eyes really were that way; he thought they only looked that way in movies. He promised himself after graduation from high school he would not sit still until he had seen this wonderful world with all it had to offer. After a four year stint in the Air Force during the Vietnam War he returned to civilian life and completed his degree in Accounting and Finance at the University of Missouri. For the next thirty years he worked in the investment and banking world. But he traveled the world from continent to continent taking in both the interesting and unusual.
He suppressed his hidden desire to write for over forty years, until he sat down in the summer of 2008 and wrote two novels, spending the next three years revising the books. It wasn’t until 2011 that he engaged a professional editor to prepare the books for publication. His first efforts at storytelling produced a trilogy, New Earth: Project O.N.E., New Earth: The Search for Justice, and New Earth: The Sedna/Kern Incident.
R.D. Pittman is a storyteller and carries on the tradition he learned as a youth growing up in rural Texas.

New Book: Voices of the Wright Brothers by James T. Tecu
For thousands of years man watched with envy as the birds soared effortlessly in the skies above. He was confined to the ground, unable to unlock nature’s secrets to the mystery of flight. Then in 1903, after four years of systematic scientific research, two unknown brothers from Dayton, Ohio had found the answer. On December 17, 1903, on the sandy shores of North Carolina’s Outer Banks, these two men became the first people to fly. In the new book, Voices of the Wright Brothers, you will hear Orville and Wilbur Wright speak and come alive as they unlock the mystery of flight in in this historical novel.
The author, Jim Tecu was bitten by the aviation bug in 1979 and he started taking flying lessons. He became a pilot and later became the Publisher of the Midwest Aviation Journal from 1994 to 2004. Over the years he added ratings and eventually became a flight instructor in 2004. He also teaches pilot ground school classes at flight schools and at the community college level. He now has over 1,300 hours of flight instruction given to students as he helps them realize their dream of learning to fly.
When asked why he wrote the book he said, “Over the years, I have read a number of books about the Wright Brothers all of which were non-fiction, historical accountings. Although I enjoyed learning the details of their work there was something missing. I wanted to “hear” these two men talk. What did they say to each other in their bicycle shop in Dayton or their shed in Kitty Hawk or their dining room at 7 Hawthorn Street?” That became his goal: to make the brothers come alive and become real people in his book, Voices of the Wright Brothers.

I recently moved back to St. Louis in July of last year. For five years I was in Tucson, AZ where I attended The University of Arizona. In December 2009, I graduated with a BA in Creative Writing and Equine Science which proved to be a dynamic combination since training horses gave me inspiration for my stories. At the moment, I am attempting to forge ahead in my writing career. While my emphasis in school was Creative Nonfiction, I enjoy writing fiction, especially children's stories, and the occassional poorly executed poetry.
