SLWG Advertising Policy

Advertising Requests
St. Louis Writers Guild is contacted regularly by companies, organizations, and individuals who market products, services, and programs for writers. We do an exceptional job of promoting writers and writing-related offerings on our website and through our electronic newsletter. Both reach hundreds of writers, including members and non-members, and others who are interested in writing and literature. We also regularly distribute promotional materials at our events and sometimes permit companies and individuals to speak to our membership directly.

Limited Advertising for Free
However, SLWG limits the provision of free advertising services to our members and to promoting public events that are hosted by nonprofit organizations.

Institutional Membership
St. Louis Writers Guild is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization supporting writers and nonprofit organizations that benefit writers. Our income is derived from membership dues and modest donations. Our website, newsletters, and other resources are costly, and volunteers provide all the work necessary to promote news and events. We have a duty to make wise use of our resources.
The advertising of products and services by “for profit” companies and individuals requires an institutional membership in St. Louis Writers Guild, which costs $160 per year. Payment of dues entitles the institutional member to submit relevant information for our website and electronic newsletter, Here’s News!, and may also offer access to members through other means (please inquire). All products or services to be promoted by SLWG must be relevant to writers or writing and offer our members substantial value, in the opinion of our Board. We also prefer that SLWG members receive a discount or other advantages.

To apply to be an institutional member of St. Louis Writers Guild, please direct a letter to news@stlwritersguild.org. Include complete details on your company or organization, including descriptions of the relevant products and services you wish to offer and the discounts or other advantages you will make available to SLWG members. Also provide complete contact information for a company or organization officer. We will respond as soon as possible. Please Note: if accepted, you must remit the annual institutional membership dues in full before any advertising will be posted. We do not finance institutional membership dues.

For Members
If you are a member of SLWG, free promotion of your accomplishments, books, events, and other writing-relevant news is a benefit of your membership. You may obtain a log in and password to post your news and events directly on our blogs and in our Discussion Board forums. Contact webmaster@stlwritersguild.org.  Please note that information posted in the News/Programs blog can automatically feed to our Home page, thereby promoting your information on our website to all visitors. You may also submit up to 150-word articles for our Here’s News! Newsletter. Please format the articles as appropriate for our NEWS ABOUT MEMBERS or HERE, THERE, AND EVERYWHERE sections, as applies (see newsletter. To subscribe to Here’s News!, visit our Home page and enter your email address in the subscriber’s box).

For Nonprofit Organizations
If you are a representative of a nonprofit organization, we are happy to publicize your public events free of charge in our electronic newsletter. We do not, however, publicize other news, fundraisers, or membership campaigns (unless they are coupled with a writing-relevant event that is open to the public). Please submit your up to 150-word announcement to news@stlwritersguild.org at least two weeks prior to your event. Again, please format your submission as appropriate for our newsletter. (See above instructions for member submissions regarding how to subscribe to Here’s News!) Please indicate "Event Notice for Newsletter" in the subject line of your email.

All Advertising Submissions
For all submissions to SLWG for publicity purposes, please clearly state whether you are a member of SLWG, a representative of a nonprofit organization, or a company or individual seeking advertising assistance. Also provide complete contact information.

St. Louis Writers Guild retains full editorial authority over all content posted on its website, in its newsletter, and otherwise made available or distributed to its members.
