Volunteers Needed!
| You must be the change you wish to see in the world. - Mahatma Gandhi |
Please help St. Louis Writers Guild maintain its outstanding legacy by becoming a volunteer!
There are lots of ways you can help, ranging from one-time or occasional "as needed" services, to handling a significant project, to serving as an officer or committee chair. The work is rewarding, too. You’ll get to know other SLWG members better and meet our featured authors and others in the community. Plus, we recognize and reward our volunteers annually.
Please take a look at the opportunities listed below and let us know where you would like to be of service by filling out the form at the bottom of the page. If you know of a way you can help that isn’t listed here, just speak up! We love our volunteers!
Volunteers Coordinator is responsible for updating our website volunteers roster each month and for working with committee chairs, board members and volunteers to fill open positions. He or she will also help coordinate the annual Members of Distinction awards ceremony, help plan the annual Volunteers Luncheon and periodically submit articles to Here’s News! and The Scribe to recruit volunteers or thank existing volunteers. The Volunteers Coordinator may send out email bulletins to members concerning volunteer needs. Volunteers Coordinator reports to Membership Chair.
Special Events/Fundraising Committee Chair and several committee members help with planning and hosting special events, including our annual holiday party. The committee will be responsible for meeting with board members and committee chairs to plan events, purchase items as needed, assist with set-up, hosting and clean-up. When book sales are involved, committee members may assist as cashiers, arrange book displays, schedule authors for signings and man booths. Special Events/Fundraising Committee Chair reports to Programs Chair or Vice-President, Programs.
Programs Chair and several committee members plan and execute all regular SLWG programs, including workshops, open mic nights, and lectures. Programs Chair will contact speakers and venues and schedule events. Committee will work with Publicity Committee, update program information on website and coordinate with Membership Committee to schedule speaker shepherds. Monthly workshops and bi-monthly lectures should be scheduled at least six months in advance. Programs Chair reports to Vice-President, Programs.
Membership Incentives Coordinator(s) will research incentives for SLWG to make available to its members. Examples of such incentives may include:
- Gift certificates from current vendors; i.e., Barnes & Noble; Wired Coffee; The Mack; Allied (movie passes)
- Gift certificates from others; i.e., Borders; Office Depot; Staples; Blockbuster; Writers Digest Book Club; Writers Market (online and/or print); Writers Digest; other writers magazines
- Café Press; i.e., SLWG mugs, tote bags, mouse pads, etc.
- Additional incentives as deemed appropriate
Membership Incentives Coordinator reports to Membership Chair.
Hospitality Coordinators (several needed) help with set up of events and greet attendees at workshops, lectures, and open mic nights as scheduled. Coordinators take sign-ins from members and non-members, help with attendance prize drawings, and distribute handouts; provide SLWG membership materials to non-members who request them, take new membership applications and dues, ensure that dues are given to Membership Chair or Treasurer as instructed. Hospitality Coordinators report to Membership Chair.
The Scribe Editor is responsible for assigning articles, layout (using SLWG template), printing and mailing the quarterly print newsletter to SLWG members. Familiarity with Publisher and Adobe Acrobat preferred. Newsletter Editor reports to Vice President, Operations.
